Both Gurugram and Faridabad would soon get 500 additional traffic policemen each. The decision was taken at a meeting of the senior police officers of the State with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Training for constables

Speaking to The Hindu , Director General of Police, Haryana, B.S. Sandhu, said the Chief Minister gave his nod for creation of 500 new posts of traffic police constables for Faridabad and Gurugram. Mr. Sandhu, however, said that it would take around nine months before these constables are posted in the two districts. “The new posts of policemen would be filled after the recently recruited 4,500 police constables complete their training. It will take around nine months,” said Mr. Sandhu, adding that 250 policemen have been posted in Gurugram over the past two months against existing vacancies.

Despite the rapid increase in vehicular population over the past few years, Gurugram has only 183 sanctioned posts of traffic policemen. The senior police officers have often pointed out that the number of existing posts was grossly inadequate and a minimum of 2,000 traffic policemen were required for traffic management in the city.
