In response to a sudden spurt in phishing cases in the city, the police have issued an advisory on social media asking the public to be careful while making transactions through ATMs and Point of Sale machines.

The advisory has been put up on the Facebook page of Bengaluru City Police. It asks people to file complaints with both their bank and the local police if they notice any unwanted device attached to the ATM.

The police have also advised people to be alert to the presence of glue or any adhesive on ATM keypads as such things are used mostly by hackers to steal PIN numbers.

The cybercrime police station has been flooded with online phishing cases in recent days. Over 20 cases have been registered in the past three days alone. A majority of these cases have been reported from East Bengaluru, especially in and around Hennur area.
