Winter Warrior (Winter Witch #3) RELEASE DAY

I need to confess that I DID SOMETHING BAD. I kind of accidentally wrote a cliffhanger at the end of  Winter’s Wrath (Winter Witch #2) and then, through no fault of my own, couldn’t publish Winter Warrior (Winter Witch #3) for 10 months! I am SO sorry for the way I left things. And if … Continue reading Winter Warrior (Winter Witch #3) RELEASE DAY Read more of this blog post »

“Readers have the right to say whatever the fuck they want about a book. Period. They have that right. If they hate the book because the MC says the word “delicious” and the reader believes it’s the Devil’s word and only evil people use it, they can shout from the rooftops “This book is shit and don’t read it” if they want. If they want to write a review entirely about how much they hate the cover, they can if they want. If they want to make their review all about how their dog Foot Foot especially loved to pee on that particular book, they can."

Eleanor No, thank YOU for accepting my friendvite! I really look forward to getting to know you. In fact, you're so nice and friendly it already feels like I've known you before! x Elle

I love it, and hope you enjoy it as well. William Goldman also wrote the screenplay for Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

message 76: by Brandon

Brandon Hello! Thanks for the kind words, haha! Archer's a pretty cool dude. Any friend of his is a friend of mine. :D

message 75: by Jyanx

Jyanx The Princess Bride

It was a book before it was a movie, but they were both written by the same person.

message 74: by Jyanx

Jyanx Thanks for the friend request. I will not hold it against you, it's sort of a question from my one of my favorite books.

message 73: by Wigs

Wigs I've seen you on all my friends' stuff that I thought we already were friends! Of course! :)

message 72: by Rachel

Rachel Hartman Aw, yay! Thanks for telling me!

My sister is moving to Perth next week. I realize that's a whole continent away from y'all, but still. Do Australians all know each other, the way Canadians do? ;)

message 71: by Janelle

Janelle Stalder Bestie!! It's been too long! How are things!?

KJ Shadows fyi..funny you commented on my post. i was wondering what you thought of fosg? if you've read it that is haha

KJ Shadows Hey Lissa! How have you been? Haven't talked to you in way long. I see you had a few more books come out! I love the books covers that your currently reading =) looks interesting.

message 68: by Thalia

Thalia Hi Lissa! No problem. (: The cover is the same as the video game cover, so that may be where you saw it before! And Yorda is just lovely; I loved her in the book and the game and she's definitely my all-time favorite heroine. (:

Thank you Lissa, I'm so honoured and you're beautiful.

I hope you enjoy and even if not (I'd feel bad you spent your money), I'd love to know your thoughts

x

Turquoise You are welcome! Do you have any book recommendation for me?

message 64: by Steph

Steph Sinclair Thank you, Lissa! Just under 1,000 followers and that number surprises me all the time. It's pretty cool that people even glance at what I do on GR. lol.

message 63: by Vinaya

Vinaya Same here! I only discovered this afternoon that we weren't and of course, I remedied the situation immediately! :)

I've always found the Secret Garden a lot more interesting than A Little Princess, simply because Mary's such a flawed character, and yet, eventually, so empowering, but without the proselytizing that accompanies way too many of Hodgson Burnett's books. I can't wait to see what you think of it, and the others!

Kat (Lost in Neverland) You're welcome! Yes, they're both amazing books, I highly recommend them.

message 61: by Marie

Marie Hi Lissa! Thank's for the friend request :D

message 60: by Kruti

Kruti Hi Lissa, thanks for the friend request. It's lovely to meet you. I'm looking forward to discussing books with you and can't wait to check out some of the books you've written.

shady boots Thank you for accepting! <3 And yes, I truly hope you'll read Angelfall soon. Just look at what it did to me. xD Haha.

Mel (who is deeply in love with herself) Hey Lissa! How are you?
Just wondering when you're planning to move to Aussieland?
:)

message 53: by Janelle

Janelle Stalder At least this gives you the chance to go through your things! Throw out anything you haven't used in a year! That's what I always do when I'm moving.

message 49: by Steph

Steph Sinclair Hey, did you hear about the contest Amazon is running for aspiring published authors?
http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by...

message 48: by Steph

Steph Sinclair Sure! I should be finished both by Saturday. Since I've already read it, I don't want to hold you back if you get excited and want to read further! We can just start at the same time and make status updates as we go along. That way we can discuss. When we finish (and you will probably finish before me because I have my lovelies, Thing 1 and Thing 2, to distract me, lol) we can have an even better discussion on our reviews. We can compare and contrast things we liked and didn't like. Does that sound good to you and Archer?

I've never done a read along either. Unless you count the massive Angelfall read along! Lol.

message 47: by Reynje

Reynje I had a lot of fun googling old Milo ads from the 80s and 90s - hilarious! They were making me all nostalgic and I still live here... :)

message 46: by Bidisha

Bidisha Das Lyra? I love her, too. And His Dark Materials blew my mind away, although I read the series in the wrong order.

message 45: by Bidisha

Bidisha Das Hey, I just saw the comment you left on my profile. Sorry for the delay!

And thanks for accepting the request :)

Believe it or not, I haven't watched the Gone With The Wind movie either. But I'm a huge fan of the book and the official sequel, Scarlett (which isn't written by Margaret Mitchell, btw). And honestly, there's not much to like about Scarlett. At least, not initially. She's vain, spoilt and such a bitch. And the whole epiphany thing only strikes her at the end of the first book. She's so blatantly flawed yet there's something so incredibly alluring about her, so grudgingly admirable about that motto she lives by - 'tomorrow is another day' - I think she's the best fleshed out character in literary fiction.

Also, I think that histrionic personality had something to do with it.

Who's your favourite fictional character?

message 44: by Steph

Steph Sinclair Yeah, he just tweeted me. It'll be interesting to see how he likes it!

message 43: by Rose

Rose Thanks for accepting the request Lissa. :) I'm looking forward to reading your work in the future and seeing your recommendations. And I'm glad to know another person who thinks Jane Eyre is awesome, haha!

message 42: by Steph

Steph Sinclair OMG, I know! Right next to Becca Fitzpatrick. Is this real life? Lol.

message 41: by Mel (who is deeply in love with herself) (last edited Jan 04, 2012 02:48AM)

Mel (who is deeply in love with herself) Thanks for accepting! I love your reviews (Hush Hush is a particular favourite of mine) and think you're hilarious! I just asked your friend Adam on whether I should send you a request, and he told me to go for it. So...now we're friends! Yay! Now this calls for a special lil' dance I only whip out on special occasions.
*celebratory dance* Whoo!

As for that answer...Please GOD, tell me the person was sarcastic. Bella Swan can barely be called a character, never mind a "literary heroine". Please tell me the person's name, so I can shoot some sense into them.
*cocks shotgun*

And yes, THG is FABULOUS. Katniss is a female character who actually has a BACKBONE,. I know; shock horror, right? I had almost forgotten such a thing existed in YA fiction. I'm sure you'll love it! (And you're right; the trailer looked AH-MAZING. I like me some Hemsworth.)

message 40: by Shannon

Shannon Your new thumbnail (why can't I see a bigger picture, huh?) looks absolutely gorgeous. Love the photo.

message 39: by Shannon

Shannon How could you block me?! Hooowwww?!

Lol, just kidding.

Love love love.

message 38: by Rachel

Rachel Hartman Thanks for accepting! I'm shy too, believe it or not. Writing may be a profession that attracts shy people. :)

message 37: by Reynje

Reynje Hey Lissa, you beat me to it :) I've been meaning to send you a friend request.

Looking forward to chatting with you - and all the best for the move back to Australia!

Rey

message 36: by Steph

Steph Sinclair That's fine. That timeline actually works out perfect for me. I still have to knock out some of my Winter reading challenge books. Just let me know! :)

message 35: by Steph

Steph Sinclair Hey Lissa,

Do you still want to do the Hunger Games read along? :)

KJ Shadows hey!! droppin by to let you know i started reading ur book ;) been on hiatus and wondering how your doing :D

message 33: by Katherine (last edited Dec 13, 2011 04:34AM)

Katherine I just had a minor freak out when I saw your comment/reply about the Mistborn book waiting for you in Aus! It's still there though - freak out over! *wipes forehead in relief*

Also, I listened to the audio books for the trilogy, and I liked it, though I'm not a fantasy reader. Julian is though, and he really liked it.

message 32: by Relena

Relena Hello there :)
Yes thank you for accepting the request.
I could imagine that Jane Austen characters are a popular choice. Which character do you get the most?
Um, I believe that Alice and Lizzy have some thing in common: they are both rather strong headed.

message 31: by Shirley

Shirley Marr Well it probably goes without saying that I am totally for you querying those Australian agents! I have a pretty strong opinion that I like seeing Aussie authors mantaining a sort of Aussie flavour to their work - not saying that everyone should start writing about cattle farming in the outback... but...

Lara Morgan with her Rosie Black Chronicles for instance, I'm very impressed that she's writing for an international SF audience, but her world-buidling is based on Perth in 100 years time... and the little things... such as the diets becoming very Asian influenced because of where Perth sits in terms of migratory routes, is wonderful.

It makes me sad when I see Aussie authors writing intentionally for certain overseas market or riding the coat tails of a certain trend and making their books have that same homogeneity that makes those books popular. Not going to name anyone, but the comments on their books tell all!

Have a good think Lissa. I wouldn't worry too much about the writing, as long as your roots are true;-)

xx

message 30: by Shirley

Shirley Marr Lissa wrote: "I read your review of Pan's Whisper. Do you think it is a sign of Australian-ness to have simple and plain writing? I was accused of having plain writing but if it's typically Australian then I won..."

Now that I think about it, the answer appears to be yes! Lots of authors voices come to mind, esp in contempt Aussie YA, which is just beautiful in its simplicity. I think it's part of the charm for overseas readers too.

And Lissa, if that is your natural voice, then use it. I haven't heard it, do you want me to?

All I know is that if you try and talk in a funny-funny fancy voice then writing will become a painful experience, the joy will go, you will no longer want to do it and then life will no longer be worth living*

*disclaimer: as depicted by my own personal opinion
