Abstract: Objective To study prospective memory in patients with first-episode nonorganic insomnia. Methods A total of 40 patients with first-episode nonorganic insomnia(NI group) and 40 healthy controls(HC group) were assessed by Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Self-Rating Depression Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Event-based prospective memory (EBPM) task and time-based prospective memory (TBPM) task were used to measure the prospective memory status. Independent sample t test was used to compare all of the prospective memory tasks between the two groups. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlations between sleep quality and prospective memory in NI group. Results There was significant difference observed in EBPM and TBPM between NI group and HC group (3.53±0.75 vs. 3.95± 0.90, t=-2.287, P=0.025;3.15±1.17 vs. 3.75±1.08,t=-2.387, P=0.019). EBPM in NI group was negatively correlated to PSQI (r=-0.669, P<0.01). Conclusion The NI group patients may present with memory impairment on both EBPM and TBPM. EBPM in nonorganic insomnia patients is correlated to their sleep quality.
