The Role of CD47 in Microglia Erythrophagocytosis

Abstract: Aim To observe the phenomenon ofin vitro erythrophagocytosis and investigate the role of CD47 in erythrophagocytosis.Methods Rat microglia were cultured, red blood cells (RBC) were labeled with PKH-26,and then labeled RBC (young RBC or senescent RBC) were added to microglia. The expression of CD47 on RBC was measured by Western blot in different groups. Flow cytometric analysis was performed after microglia were labeled with APC.ResultsExpression of CD47 was reduced during murine RBC senescence (P<0.05). Senescent RBC was more easily phagocytosed than young RBC by microglia (P<0.05).Conclusion Decreased CD47 expression on red blood cells could promote erythrophagocytosis.
