The title track from Iron Butterfly’s 1968 album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is coming to Rock Band 4, developer Harmonix announced today, giving players an opportunity to jam through all 17 minutes-plus of the psyche rock hit.
Because of its extreme length — the song has a two-and-a-half-minute drum solo, during which the rest of the band can just chill — Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” will cost $2.99 to download. That’s a dollar more than the standard track price for Rock Band DLC.
At 17 minutes and five seconds, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” will be the second-longest track in a Rock Band game. The longest, Rush’s “2112,” was released during the Rock Band 3 era and was split across three DLC tracks. If purchased together, however, players could experience Rush’s seven-chapter “2112” for more than 20 minutes.
The Rock Band franchise is no stranger to lengthy rock epics. Songs like Iron Maiden’s “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” Peter Frampton’s “Do You Feel Like We Do” and Yes’ “Heart of the Sunrise” have been released as Rock Band DLC.
