Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Industrials and Consumer Staples sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.06%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 8.82% or 1.11 points to trade at 13.69 at the close. Meanwhile, NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) added 7.43% or 0.220 points to end at 3.180 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) was up 6.60% or 0.54 points to 8.72 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI), which fell 7.66% or 5.83 points to trade at 70.29 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) declined 4.65% or 0.70 points to end at 14.34 and New Flyer Industries Inc (TO:NFI) was down 4.36% or 2.40 points to 52.66.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 542 to 541 and 131 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.87% to 14.26.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.46% or 5.66 to $1233.16 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.20% or 0.56 to hit $45.98 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.04% or 0.51 to trade at $48.40 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.30% to 0.7878, while CAD/EUR fell 0.48% to 0.6862.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 94.90.
