9. Coerced Affairs - a silly spin on the whole protocol keeping them apart. It’s not the only story of mine that draws on this idea, though.

“You’re not alone, Kathryn.“ Chakotay was worried. He hadn’t considered coming home would mean for her that she would be alone. It wasn’t that long ago that he had figured a very different outcome.
“You know what I mean…“ She trailed off.
“You know, for a while there I really believed we could be something,“ Chakotay suddenly said quietly staring into his own cup, “something more, I mean.“
Janeway’s head shot up. Here she was thinking she had just imagined things.
“At first I thought you just needed time, but I truly believed there was a spark, you know?“ Chakotay explained, “A connection. But you never let anything on, so I thought I had imagined it because I wanted it so badly.“
“Not that it matters now,“ She replied, “but I felt it too.“
