This chat shall be known henceforth as the Bartolo Colon Memorial Chat.
Drop some questions and we'll get rolling right after I go fill up my coffee mug.
Mets
2:03
Percent chances the Mets take a flier on Bartolo?
Jeffrey Todd
2:03
May as well get this outta the way right off the bat ...
2:04
It's very hard to know how any given team will see it. The history there obviously makes it a possibility. Heck, he'd probably help keep butts in the seats. But they may just not see much left and decide it isnt worth all the attention.
2:05
Might also prefer to run out some other arms. Maybe 50/50 they have some interest, less likely it gets done. (Who knows if he's willing to pitch in the minors.)
Sandy
2:05
What do I get back for Granderson? Who could use him?
Jeffrey Todd
2:05
Not much because there's not a lot of clear demand and he's very expensive. I know he's been hitting better, but there are lots of other possible corner OF trade chips.
Cory
2:05
How likely are the Orioles to listen to offers for Kevin Gausman with the season he is having? What other starters might the Twins be looking for, or do you seem them as sellers?
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
O's have to ride it out with Gausman. Really wouldn't be much of a contender target -- more of a buy-low for an org that wants to take a shot. I guess I could see a team like the Twins having interest, but how will they offer enough to make it worth Baltimore punting on his upside?
O's don't have any replacements and are still in contention, too.
Carl
2:07
Any hope to see Luke Weaver in the majors soon?
Jeffrey Todd
2:07
Think they'll ride it out with their 5 til there's a glaring need.
Billy beane
2:07
Sonny trade package ?
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
He has real value with the solid peripherals and history. (And affordable control.) Impossible to give any definition beyond that, really, but I think he'll command a significant return.
Alex
2:08
What would it take to get Andrelton Simmons in St. Louis? Is it realistic??
Jeffrey Todd
2:08
Not happening.
Mark
2:08
Will Dahl ever be healthy this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:09
Seems there really hasn't been much progress and there's still uncertainty. Not clear at this point but perhaps eventually there'll be consideration of surgery (NO idea if this is even plausible, just sayin') or a full-blown shut down to let him rest.
Jaxon
2:10
Would a trade of Gyorko and Lynn from the Cards bring back Devers from the Red Sox?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
Ehhh they'd really have to buy into Gyorko to do that. Not sure I see it. But if they think he's legit, his contract would make that conceivable.
Eric
2:11
What do you think a Miguel Montero trade could look like?
Jeffrey Todd
2:11
Expect he's released and signs elsewhere. But I guess a team could take on a little bit of the contract to add him.
Dave
2:12
If you're the angels, what are you looking to add at the deadline? Starting pitcher, second base, bullpen depth?
Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Hard for them to draw from that farm to add to the roster. They might just have to roll with what they have.
2:13
I guess it could be interesting if they were willing to trade from their stock of injured pitchers or something. Some teams might be interested in a roll of the dice.
Feel like the rotation has to be the target there, if any, but it may just be finding what they can get without giving up young talent.
Brian
2:13
Which teams do you consider the front runner for Verlander?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
Doubt there is one at this point.
It would have to be an org that will be willing to carry a big salary, even if Detroit hangs on to some of it. And it could still be impacted by how he and other controlled SP trade candidates throw over the next month.
Jeff
2:15
Is Fowler being promoted as a showcase by the Yanks for a future trade for a 1st baseman?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
I've never really bought into that line of thinking too much. I mean, how much will other teams really learn from one month (if that) of MLB action? And if he plays really well, is he a guy they'd want to move?
Rocky
2:17
What would it take for the Red Sox to get Jed Lowrie?  Chavis, Groome?
Jeffrey Todd
2:17
He isn't going to require a huge prospect, I wouldn't think.
Playing well and could fit some rosters, but he has an injury history and hasn't been this productive in recent years.
Lucas Duda
2:18
Do I get traded and what type of return will I require?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Yes. Lowrie-level of value (less positional flexibility, but better hitter; several other candidates impacting market).
David
2:19
Bartolo Colon missed, basically, five straight seasons in his prime and still won 235 games. If he hadn't lost those seasons we might be looking at the last 300-game winner. How crazy is that?
Jeffrey Todd
2:19
That is legitimately crazy.
Wayne
2:19
Do you see the Braves trading Matt Adams at deadline or maybe wait until offseason?
