The Barking branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association collected from the faithful throughout Ramadan to send food and toiletries to seven women’s refuges across east London and Essex for the second year in a row.
Siemah Ahmad, who helped co-ordinate the collection, said it was important that Barking’s Ahmadiyya Muslim women branched out into the wider community to help when it was needed.
“We had a massive response to the collection because during Ramadan you’re supposed to think about those who need help,” she said. “We wanted to help women in our community and this is something we hope to keep doing.”
The donations were sent to the refuges on Monday, June 12, before the fasting month of Ramadan concluded on Saturday, June 24.
