Due to major improvements in their computing prowess, the newer Raspberry Pi boards are capable of running some of the most popular Linux distributions and even the ARM version of Windows 11 without major performance issues. But if you’re bored with the same ol’ desktop interface, you can choose to run Android on these tiny systems. And not just any version of Android; thanks to the efforts of developer KonstaKANG, it’s possible to set up the latest version of the Android operating system on tiny Raspberry Pi boards.

For some people, even Google's version of Android isn't perfect. While the lack of a heavy-handed skin is welcome, many users will find shortcomings on vanilla Android that they'd like to tweak. In case you're rocking the Pixel 6 or 7 and you're ready to say goodbye to the software updates from Google a little early, why not hop on the LineageOS train?

Custom ROM projects like LineageOS can be a fantastic way to give another lease on life to an aging device, like we saw with the Pixel 2 series and its ability to run Android 13, all thanks to an official build of LineageOS 20. Luckily, you don't have to wait for the manufacturer to drop support before you start tinkering with custom ROMs, as they're just as good for trying out a more modern phone with some heavy OEM skin. This is somewhat the situation today, as we check out the new LineageOS 20 plans for a few relatively recent devices.

LineageOS 20 is already available for a plethora of devices from Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola, Sony, and even Google. Keeping the modding spirit alive, more devices are constantly being added to the list. The second generation Pixel phones are the latest Google devices to get the official support of the latest LineageOS release based on Android 13.

LineageOS 20 has been with us for some time now. The popular custom ROM not only helps legacy and lower-end phones get a taste of the latest Android, but it also provides even more capable devices with an alternative firmware option. The last time we covered the project, it added support for the SHIFT SHIFT6mq and a handful of phones from Xiaomi. Since then, many more devices have made their way to the official roster.

The development team has now added support for four more devices, including the Poco X3, SHIFT SHIFT6mq, Xiaomi Mi 6, and the Mi Mix 2.

It’s easy to make an older 'dumb' TV feel new by attaching an Android TV box or stick, but it’s not quite that simple when you just have a Raspberry Pi for your DIY project. Even though the homebrew tinkering flagbearer uses the same ARM architecture as most Android devices, porting Android to the Pi has always been a tricky process. Nonetheless, XDA Senior Member KonstaT has been responsible for compiling Android for the popular credit card-sized computer and his latest effort now shoehorns Android TV 13 to the Raspberry Pi 4.

The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are among the best Android phones that one can purchase right now. However, many users were rightfully apprehensive about the aftermarket development scene on the Pixel 6 family not picking up. The Tensor SoC that powers the Pixel 6 is Google’s debut in smartphone chip-making. As a result, third-party developers required some time to settle in and understand the platform before building custom ROMs for the device duo.
