How to Fix Blocked Pipes
Blocked Pipes are a common occurrence in Oxygen Not Included that can be easily remedied as long as you know what issues to look for.
This article will cover the common causes of blocked pipes and how you can fix them.
Set Up a Functional Plumbing System
The first step to preventing blocked pipes is setting up your plumbing system correctly.
- Designate a clean water source and a polluted water destination.
- Use a liquid pump to feed clean water to amenities such as toilets and showers. Make sure the liquid pump is submerged in the water.
- Since items such as the toilet output more water than they take in, you will need to empty out the polluted water into a septic tank of sorts to prevent blocked pipes.
Setting this up correctly is important because you can end up with problems such as water contamination, structural damage, colony flooding, and duplicant illness.
Make sure pipes attached to green outtakes are more than two tiles long so water leaving a toilet or shower won't cause a build up and start a blockage.
Once your plumbing system is set up, we can move on to the common causes of blocked pipes and how to fix them.
Check Plumbing Connections
The most common cause of blocked pipes in Oxygen Not Included is a missing pipe connection. This can happen when you’re doing construction on an area in your colony and mistakenly deconstruct the pipes.

- Check to see if you have any missing connections in your plumbing system.
Check Power Delivery
Blocked pipes can also occur if one of the devices in your plumbing system isn’t receiving power.
Although toilets and showers don’t require a power source, items such as a liquid pump, water purifier, air scrubber, and electrolyzer do.
- Navigate to the right-hand corner to find the OVERLAYS bar.
- Click on the image of the plug with the lightning bolt to reveal your power grid.
- Check to see if there are any missing, strained, or underpowered connections on the grid.
Check Water Input and Output
Insufficient water input and output can cause blocked pipes as well.
- If your liquid pump isn’t submerged in enough water then this can cause pipes to stop running.
- On the contrary, liquid vents should not be submerged in water because this will prevent the release of water and cause a pipe blockage.
Every plumbing system should begin with a liquid pump and end with a liquid vent.
