Game of Thrones death watch: An ongoing list of characters who die this season

At times, Game of Thrones can be a joyous occasion.

But most of the time spent watching Game of Thrones is pacing around in circles nervously, one trained eye on the television set or computer screen while the other looks anywhere but, as you anxiously await the death of your favorite character.

Television! It’s a beautiful thing.

[Warning: The following will most certainly contain spoilers for the entire seventh season of Game of Thrones as it develops.]

Sometimes, you just want to rip the band-aid off and see whether or not your favorite character has been killed without having to watch the painful occurrence on screen. That’s why we’ve decided to keep a death watch going. Not only will this help archive all of the precious Game of Thrones members we’ve lost this season, but it will also help those too nervous to watch the show — but who want to be able to join in the conversation at work the next day without feeling like a sore thumb for having not seen it — keep track of who’s alive and who’s dead.

Or, in the case of Jon Snow, keep track of who was alive, dead and then alive once more.

Game of Thrones’ seventh season will run for the next seven weeks, airing each Sunday at 9 p.m ET on HBO. Please note that we’ve used a photo of Joffrey Baratheon as the main image because we all know by now that he’s dead and any other character would lead to spoilers or gross miscalculations and unneeded panic attacks.

Episode One

Walder Frey’s men: In what may have been the best cold open the show has ever had, Walder Frey’s closest and fiercest men were poisoned to death after being toasted by a devious Arya Stark, clad in a Walder Frey mask and outfit. Numerous men fell to the ground, clutching their throats as they tried to retch.

Perhaps the best moment of it all, however, is when Arya revealed herself to be the mastermind behind the mass attack, declaring, “Winter has come for House Frey.”

Episode Two

Obara Sand: As part of his gift to Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy managed to stab Obara Sand in the stomach with her own spear during his attack on the Sand Snakes. The daughter of Oberyn Martell could later be seen impaled on that very same spear at the front of the ship that Euron and his men attacked.

Nymeria Sand: Much like her sister Obara, Nymeria had her own weapon used against her during Euron’s raid. Nymeria used the whip to attack Euron, but he managed to turn the assault around, tightening it around her neck and choking Nymeria to death with it. At the end of the episode, Nymeria could be seen hanging from her whip on the ship, beside her sister’s impaled body.

There are a couple of other characters who may have died — including Yara Greyjoy — but we won’t know until the next episode. It seems far more likely that Euron kidnapped the three women and brought them back to Cersei alive as a gift, allowing the queen atop the Iron Throne to do whatever she wants with them.

Episode Three

Lady Olenna: Last night’s Game of Thrones episode said goodbye to one of our all-time favorite characters: Lady Olenna Tyrell. There was barely enough time to say goodbye and pay our respects before Lady Olenna proved once again why she’s always been the one character no one could touch. After a confrontation with Jaime Lannister, which resulted in Lady Olenna drinking a poisonous concoction, the eldest Tyrell confirmed she was the devious mind behind Joffrey’s violent death in the show’s fourth season.

The scene has already been crowned one of the best the season has seen thus far and, although we were ultimately sad to say goodbye to Lady Olenna, at least she got the badass death she deserved.

Tyene Sand: The third episode in Game of Thrones’ seventh season is fittingly called, “The Queen’s Justice.” Euron Greyjoy parades into King’s Landing with Tyene and Ellaria Sand, presenting them to Cersei as a gift, their fates sealed in the hands of a sadist. Covering her lips with the “Long Farewell” poison that was used to kill her own daughter, Myrcella, Cersei kisses Tyene, condemning her to death.

Ellaria can do nothing but watch with a pained expression as the poison slowly makes its way into her daughter’s bloodstream, killing her. Although we don’t see Tyene die, much like Lady Olenna, her fate seems sealed. With this being Game of Thrones, however, there is always a chance that someone could save her.

Part of the Unsullied army: It’s impossible to escape war without losing any men. With the Unsullied finally breaching the walls of Casterly Rock, it was only a matter of time before some of the men began dying...

Part of the Lannister army: ...but at least the Unsullied were able to take out their pain and frustration with the situation on the Lannister army. Using a hole in the wall that Tyrion created to sneak women into the fortress through the sewers, the Unsullied were able to sail over and breach the walls and slaughter the Lannister army behind the gates.

Like last week, there are a few other characters who may be dead — or are en route to slowly dying — but those are the only confirmed deaths we have for now.
