Star Wars’ Han Solo movie appears to still be on track for summer release, more details soon

May will still be a busy month

Lucasfilm knows people want details about the untitled Han Solo movie. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer.

Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, said that he’s “looking forward to sharing more details” soon, but based on an updated timeline that was released earlier in the panel, the movie is still scheduled to be released next summer.

There were concerns that, after directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the project last month, and Ron Howard was brought in to replace them, delays would be inevitable. But Disney hasn’t hinted at that being the case.

According to various reports, Lord and Miller’s stylistic direction for the film contradicted what Lucasfilm executives, including CEO Kathleen Kennedy, had in mind. Reports also suggested that Lord and Miller clashed with writers Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, causing tension on set.

In a statement from the two directors, they acknowledged that, while the term “creative differences” is usually overused, it best summarized what had occurred on the Han Solo project.

“We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences,’ but for once this cliché is true,” Lord and Miller said. “We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”
