WZ-11 makeover and some help needed

Hello,

found this on the flea market, in parts, on closer examination the center screw holding the doors in place was missing, the handle and the ring under the adjuster was cracked, but for 30 Cents, who cares.

Luckily Wizamet used the same half screw as the Gillette Slim twist, so I salvaged the missing part from my stash.

The handle could have been repaired but is quite boring, so replaced it with a broken fountain pen and repainted the dial.

The only thing I'm not sure about is wether or not the adjuster is set correctly.
On 1 it looks around decent, but 9 looks too far away from the base plate, the blade chatters.

Could someone post some pictures with a properly set WZ-11 on 1 and 9?

While taking the photos I realised the center of the base plate is crooked a bit, this will be taken care of.

Thanks

Adam

Classy fix, that's so cool to be combining vintage pens and razors! Nice celluloid barrel pattern, Adam.

Hello,

If you can wait until Friday/Saturday I have 3 W-11's that I can measure the gaps (1-9) and take photos of for you.

Cheers

Mm, if possible, I have no inch capable measuring device.

Adam,

Here are some pictures of the W-11 (and brothers) shown at 1 and 9. On Friday I'll measure the gaps 1-9 with feeler gauges and post dimensions. Hope this helps.

Cheers
John

Thank you imatabor.

John,

judging by your pictures the gaps on mine are around the same, setting 9 has to be handled with much caution. Thank you for taking the photos.

Hello,

gave it a go today with a used (don't know how many times) Wilkinson blade. With the grain on Nr. 3 everything went fine. Next ATG on Nr. 1, it was extremely noisy and unpleasant. Another ATG on Nr. 5, it was fine again.

Somehow Nr. 1 feels it wants to rip off my skin.

The razor is unbalanced for my taste, but shaves good.

Imho a Wilkinson blade in a mildish razor is a recipe for discomfort. I tried one in a Tech and it was tuggy and unpleasant. Try a sharper blade if you have one handy, I bet things will improve.

Thanks again for the measurements, it looks like my dial is spot on (on closer inspection over or underclocking would be also visible on the handle).

To be honest I can't even recall how many times I previously used the Wilkinson or for how long it was sitting in my rack loaded into a bakelite razor.
Not the best/visest way to test a new razor I know, next try will be a new vintage Wilkinson.
