If you want to know why the networks and Amazon are paying so much for NFL telecasts you only need to consider this report from Sports Media Watch.
NFL playoff games were the top 10 telecasts through the first half of 2017 and 18 of the top 50. The NFL still brings in the biggest advertising haul despite the dop in ratings last season.
Interestingly, college basketball had 13 of the top 50 sports shows compared with only nine for the NBA. The NHL had only one showing in the top 50 (game six of the Stanley Cup Finals) but even that contest was handily beaten by MLB's Home Run Derby, which saw its highest ratings since 2009 thanks to New York Yankee slugger Aaron Judge.
