How Elektra Fits Into The Story When The Defenders Begins, According To Elodie Yung

Elektra Netflix Daredevil

The plot of The Defenders has been kept tightly under wraps, but it's become pretty clear that Elektra has a large part to play in it. The character was resurrected by the Hand after she was killed by Nobu at the end of Daredevil Season 2, and now we know that at the beginning of The Defenders viewers will quickly realize that she isn't quite the same Elektra that she used to be. At the San Diego Comic-Con press room earlier this month, CinemaBlend's own Eric Eisenberg learned from actress Elodie Yung during a roundtable interview that Elektra is essentially an entirely different character at the start of The Defenders. Said the actress,

It was a great idea. I think they got really inspired by the comics. Elektra dies and comes back in a new outfit, and she's changed. It was a really cool and interesting thing to have Elektra again, just being a completely new character. Almost, because she doesn't remember anything. And so exploring kind of a new character was exciting for me. So this is where we start. And then Alexandra takes over this new Elektra and forges her the way she wants her to be, if that makes sense. So that's the start.

One of the big reveals of the last season of Daredevil was that Elektra was a person of important significance to the Hand, a weapon known as a Black Sky. While we aren't entirely sure of what that means just yet, it's important enough for the Hand to bring Elektra back to life with their special containers full of tainted blood. At the beginning of The Defenders, Elektra has almost no memory of her life before she was resurrected, essentially making her an entirely new character. Our guess is that she won't exactly be a peaceful person in her second life, as she can be seen fighting the Defenders in the recently-released trailer. Whether or not she keeps this personality or comes back to her senses by the end of the show will be something that we will discover over the course of the eight-episode event series.

In The Defenders, Elektra will be in the hands of Sigourney Weaver's Alexandra, a high ranking member of the Hand with mysterious motives for New York City. Based on what we know about Alexandra, Elektra's actions may not end up being strictly evil, as Weaver has said her character is not so black and white. Then again, how good can a person be for using another person as a weapon to battle superheroes? We'll just have to wait until the show airs to know more.
