Aerosol Optical Thickness Updating Forecast

This animation shows a daily updated 10-day forecast of aerosol optical thickness. Blue represents sea salt extinction aerosol optical thickness (550 nm). Sea salt is churned up from the ocean by surface winds. Red represents dust extinction aerosol optical thickness (550 nm). Dust blows over the Saharan desert and often interacts with tropical cyclones. Green represents the sum of aerosol optical thickness for organic carbon, black carbon, and sulfate. These emissions are the result of biomass burning (organic and black carbon), fossil fuel emissions, and volcanoes (sulfate).
