ISOs were released: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6947
Debian Stretch has been released and it's time for us to do the same for SolydXK. Before we will release our ISOs there is still a lot to do. Our repository needs changing, we must describe the steps to upgrade a SolydXK-8 system to SolydXK-9. The ISOs need testing and the applications need testing as well.
I could use some help with describing the upgrade steps or even creating a script to aid users in process of upgrading their systems. So, if you have some spare time, install SolydX-8 and SolydK-8 (201701 version) in a virtual machine and describe/script the best way to upgrade the system.
I've attached two upgrade script for upgrading SolydX-8 201701 and SolydK-8 201701 to version 9 but they will need a lot of testing: Note: check the output of the apt commands. All systems are configured differently and you might remove packages that are needed for your system!
After the release of SolydXK-9 I will keep the solydxk-8 repository available for another year. Firefox and Thunderbird will be updated in the solydxk-8 repository but they are not tested with SolydXK-8. So, use at your own risk!
System changes
- New themes for SolydX and SolydK. You can choose a light or dark theme.
- Solydxk Systems has a GUI now where you can encrypt partitions, localize your system, select the fastest repositories, hold back packages and cleanup your system. This application needs a lot of testing.
- The backport repository was removed but can be enabled in the new SolydXK System application.
- The solydx/k-info packages were integrated in the solydx/k-system-adjustments packages and are now obsolete.
- Updatemanager is replaced by applications from Debian's repository with similar functionalities and the new SolydXK System GUI.
- SolydXK Softwaremanager has been replaced with an application from Debian's repository.
- Device Driver Manager (DDM)
- SolydXK Conky
- Lightdm Manager > lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings
- (SolydK) XKSudo
- (SolydK) kcm-ufw
- (SolydX) User Manager > gnome-system-tools
- (SolydX) Sambashare > gadmin-samba
I've spent a lot of time on the new SolydXK System application as it is the heart of the system. I've attached a sheet with the test cases I've done. So, if you want to test any of these or other cases, please feel free to adapt and post back the sheet: Run the application you want to test (e.g. solydxk-system) from the terminal and save the output together with the test case before you post it back here. Without it, it will be hard to debug the application.
Known issues
I will keep a list with known issues here.
- [SOLVED] If I select 'Open with File Manger' from the Device Notifier to mount an inserted USB device it is mounted as user but Dolphin is opened as root which often ends in 'The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly'. I have to close Dolphin and open Dolphin as user again to approach the USB device.
If I first open Dolphin and then mount the USB device it works as expected.
Solved with:Code: Select all
find . -name "*dolphin*" -exec rm -r {} \;
- [SOLVED] update-initramfs shows these warnings:
These are described here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=6878
Code: Select all
I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/sda3 I: (UUID=015a952b-92dc-42b7-b9c9-7a2f87e42902) I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.
- [SOLVED] On one test environment I got this message just after Grub:
This fixed it:
Code: Select all
error: no symbol table. Press any key to continue...
Code: Select all
sudo grub-install /dev/sda sudo update-grub sudo reboot
