ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan wrestling associate head coach Sean Bormet will serve as a coach for the United States men's freestyle team at the 2017 United World Wrestling (UWW) Cadet World Championships, scheduled for Sept. 7-11 in Athens, Greece. He will coach alongside Kevin Jackson, USA Wrestling's Freestyle Developmental Coach, and Northern Colorado head coach Troy Nickerson.

"Having coached at the senior and junior world championships, I'm really excited for the opportunity to coach the cadets," said Bormet. "It's an incredibly talented team. I look forward to working with each athlete and watching them shine in Athens. It's an honor for me to help represent the United States on a world stage."

The U.S. men's freestyle team was determined by a best-of-three championship series at the UWW Cadet World Team Trials on June 2-4 in Akron, Ohio. The team is made of rising high school juniors and seniors; to be eligible for UWW Cadets, athletes must have been born from 2000-02.

A three-time winner of the Terry McCann Award as the USA Wrestling Freestyle Coach of the Year (2006, '08, '10), Bormet is regarded as one of the nation's top freestyle coaches. He was a member of the personal coaching staff for three U.S. World Championship Teams (2006, '09, '10) as well as the 2012 Olympic Team, 2010 World Cup Team and 2013 Junior World Team.

Bormet was also named the 2004 USA Wrestling Developmental Coach of the Year for his coaching achievements with age-group wrestlers and programs. He coached the Illinois Junior Freestyle Team to four dual national titles (2006, '07, '08, '10) and two national freestyle titles (2007, '10) before returning to coach at his alma mater in 2011.
