Analysis of One Case of NMDA Receptor Encephalitis

Abstract: The data on a female patient with N-methyl-M-aspartate receptor(NMDA) encephalitis was analyzed in this paper. The patient was hospitalized due to abnormal mental behavior lasting for more than 20 d, seizures in face and right upper limb for 7 d and fever for 2 d, in whom the symptoms such as schizophrenia and deep coma appeared afterwards. The case was diagnosed as NMDA encephalitis by the positive results of tests for NMDA receptor antibody in sera and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF). After impact therapy with methylprednisolone at a large dosage, injection with human immunoglobulin, respiratory support and rehabilitation nursing in combination with symptomatic treatment such as sedation, reducing phlegm and anti-infection therapy, for nearly 2 months, the patient sobered up from deep coma, of whom the symptoms such as stupor and seizures were relieved. However, the patient needed further immunotherapy. The disease showed severe symptoms in clinic, of which the early diagnosis and treatment were important to the prognosis.
