LAGOS JUNE 24TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, may have a very rough road to seeking another term of office next year, as his antagonists are planning to deny him the ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), investigation by our correspondent has revealed.
The current impasse in the State House of Assembly over the election of the Speaker is only a prelude of what is expected in the next few months.
Our correspondent gathered that due to the face off between Obaseki and the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, some leaders of the party are planning to give the governor the ‘Ambode Treatment’.
Recalled that the immediate past Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, was denied a second term because of his face off with a leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu.
Obaseki’s traducers are already positioning a businessman from Oreos, Capt Hosa Okunbor, as his possible replacement.
Hon. Frank Okiye, from Uromi, Edo Central Senatorial District that was elected as the Speaker of the EDHA, does not have the blessing of Oshiomhole and the national leadership of the party has been on the neck of the APC in Edo State to reverse the situation.
The development has put the State Chairman of the party, Mr Anslem Ojezua, in a tight corner.
Nine members of the Assembly, loyal to Governor Obaseki, went behind their colleagues to elect Okiye the Speaker.
The nine lawmakers were given cover by some security agents.
Other members of the Assembly loyal to Oshiomhole were caught unawares by the trick of their colleagues and were not part of the process.
When they eventually protested at the premises of the Assembly, they were attacked by some people.
Okiye was first elected into the Assembly in 2003 on the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oshiomhole and his group are still protesting that only nine members of the Assembly loyal to the governor took part in the election of the speaker.
Recall that it took a while for the governor to sign the proclamation to inaugurate the Assembly as demanded by law.
