Two people were shot in separate shootings in central Edmonton Monday night and police said they were working to determine whether the incidents were related.

A significant police presence was seen in the area of 107 Avenue and 103 Street in central Edmonton Monday night. K-9 and tactical units were among the police at the scene.

Police said officers were called to the area of 104 Street and 107 Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. for reports of a female who went to a convenience store for help after she was shot.

She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At least four people appeared to have been taken into custody at the scene but it was not clear whether they were suspects, persons of interest or witnesses.

Then, just before 8 p.m., police said officers were called to an alley near 108 Avenue and 112 Street for a weapons complaint. Witnesses told police a male was shot while riding a bike.

He was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not say whether the victims were adults or children.
