LG OLED Once Again Crushes Rivals In Key TV Shootout

This article is more than 6 years old.

CE Week has just held its latest annual TV shootout, which pits flagship TVs from major AV brands against each other to see which comes out on top. And for the fourth year running the prize has gone to LG for one of its latest OLED TVs.

In fact, LG’s OLED victory this year has been even more emphatic than usual, with its E7 model managing to outgun its rivals in all three of the new categories the CE Week organizers decided to introduce for 2017.

The CE Week TV shootout was hosted by Imaging Science Foundation experts Joel Silver and Kevin Miller, who also calibrated each qualifying set before they were judged by a panel of video imaging experts.

This year all six TV entrants were assessed for perceived contrast ratio, color saturation, color volume, colorimetry, motion artefacts and other performance elements across three different areas: Studio Lighting/Home Theater performance, HDR performance, and Streaming Performance. And the LG OLED65E7 took the prize in every category.

LG’s achievement with the OLED65E7 is made all the more impressive because it was up against some seriously strong competition this year - including, for the first time, an OLED TV from another brand.

Here’s the full list of contenders:

Having tested the OLED65E7 myself recently, I can’t say I’m especially surprised by the CE Week Shootout result. Also pretty unsurprising is how happy LG is about its hard-earned victory: ‘The honor of being awarded the overall top performer at the CE Week TV Shootout for the 4th consecutive year underscores LG's commitment to delivering the absolute best TV technology in the industry, period,’ says Tim Alessi, Senior Director, Product Marketing for home entertainment at LG Electronics USA.

"Our 2017 OLED TVs are the ultimate expression of a cinema-quality experience in the home," Alessie continues, "being the first TVs in the market to offer stunning image reproduction and add Dolby Atmos sound quality to complete the home theater experience."
