Step 1: Scrap & Leather

I found myself a piece of scrap and cut out a piece of leather to cover it.

Step 2: Nail Down

I wanted it to be able to be lifted up so you can sharpen gouges as well so i nailed it to the piece of wood with some small tack nails.

Step 3: Cut & File

The nails where to big but i thought it looked quite cool so i cut the excess off and filed it flat on the back.

Step 4: Sand

I sanded from 120 to 320 not super smooth but smooth enough, sanding the nails at the back as well.

Step 5: Stamp & Finish

I added my makers stamp , mainly because i forgot i had it and wanted to use it again.

I finished it with 3 coats of spray lacquer sanding at 320 between coats. Making sure not to get lacquer on the leather!

Step 6: Thats It, Job Done

Thats it just add some buffing compound and strop, this lets you strop chisels, knives, curved / round gouges and v chisels / gouges all from one strop .

Pretty simple and easy but if your new to woodwork and dont have much money it can be a life saver.

I hope you enjoy!
