Andre Iguodala, Warriors Reportedly Agree to 3-Year, $48 Million Contract

Andre Iguodala will stay with the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors after agreeing to a new contact Saturday night, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. 

Shortly before the news broke, ESPN.com's Chris Haynes reported Golden State offered Iguodala a three-year deal worth $45 million. Wojnarowski reported the Warriors eventually upped their offer to $48 million over three years to secure the deal.

Iguodala chimed in to confirm the news after taking meetings with the Warriors, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs: 

Iguodala originally signed with the Warriors prior to the 2013-14 season, starting 63 games for a team that went 51-31 and was on the cusp of greatness.

The Warriors moved Iguodala to a role off the bench in his second season with the team. He was fantastic in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 52.1 percent in six games to be named series MVP. 

It seemed likely Iguodala was going to re-sign with the Warriors this summer if the team could make his salary work along with Kevin Durant's extension, per Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News: "If [Iguodala] and [Bob] Myers can nail down the salary numbers and length, and if Durant's deal means the Warriors can maintain Iguodala's Bird Rights, then this is basically a done deal. In fact, an NBA source indicated recently that the only real open question now is the number of years."

Iguodala's departure after four years—considering how much success the sides had together—wouldn't have made sense for either side, especially for a player who is 33 years old and carving out an excellent niche with the best team in the NBA. 

Iguodala has proved to be a valuable sixth man. He racked up 6.9 win shares last season, per Basketball Reference, as a reserve. 

While Iguodala's offensive game isn't what it used to be when he was with the Philadelphia 76ers, his defense and shooting prowess will make him a success for the foreseeable future.
