Here's Everything You Need To Know About Destiny 2's 'Crimson Days' Event

Destiny 2's 'Crimson Days' event started yesterday, just in time for Valentine's Day. Because nothing says "I love you" like playing 2 vs 2 Crucible matches in Destiny 2.

For those of you skipping out on more traditional Valentine's Day fare, or for those lucky couples out there with two-TV setups who can play online co-op together in the comfort of their own home (there's no split-screen in Destiny 2) Crimson Days has lots to offer.

The even comes with a bunch of new content, from special Ghost Shells to a cool Dieselpunk Exotic Ornament and lots of new shaders.

Here's everything you need to know.

How long does it run?

The Crimson Days event began yesterday, February 13th and runs until next Tuesday, February 20th on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

What's this new 2 vs 2 Crucible mode?

For one week only, ditch 4 vs 4 PvP and couple up instead. The new mode is basically a tweaked version of Clash with a "round-based twist" according to Bungie. All your abilities recharge faster if you stay in close proximity with your partner, and slower the further you're apart.

Oh, and if you don't have a partner don't worry. There's matchmaking this time around.

(Beware: Going up against Nightstalker Hunters makes this mode a total drag.)

There's a new map called 'Burnout.'

It's actually an old map, Destiny's 'Burning Shrine.' Oddly enough, 'Burnout' sounds more like many players' response to Destiny 2 in general, so that's some nice irony. Still, it's great to see 'Burning Shrine' return.

New Loot and Goodies

The big draw for Crimson Days is all the new cosmetic loot. Players can play for the next week and earn Crimson Engrams which are filled with goodies, including a bunch of different shaders, ornaments and so forth:

There's also special loot that you can earn by completing various milestones:

The Tirastrella Ghost Shell

Complete the milestone “Welcome to Crimson Days” by finishing five Crimson Days matches and visiting Lord Shaxx in the Tower to earn the Fire of the Crimson Days Emblem and the Tirastrella Ghost Shell.

Complete the Nightfall Strike during the Crimson Days event to earn the Flaunting Dance Emote.

Can you just buy all this stuff?

Bungie's learned a few things since the last Destiny 2 event. This time around, all Crimson Engrams can only be earned through gameplay. You can still purchase individual items via Bright Dust (which you get via dismantling gear, decrypting engrams and so forth) but the primary method of earning Crimson Days loot is through gameplay, as it should be. All Crimson Days items can be dismantled for Bright Dust.

Bungie has also implemented a knock-out system which prevents you from getting duplicate items until you have all of them, though I've heard that this doesn't quite work out as advertised. Still, it's a step in the right direction.

That's all folks.

As far as Destiny 2 events go, this one is both pretty tame and pretty uncontroversial---something Bungie badly needs it to be. My question to you, dear readers, is whether this is enough to lure you back to the game after the previous (rather lackluster) DLC? Let me know with a tweet.
