Two killed in Hong Kong after being knocked down by tour bus

Pair were trapped under vehicle and had to be pulled out by firefighters

Two people died on Thursday morning after being knocked down by a tour bus in To Kwa Wan.

The crash happened at Ma Tau Kok Road shortly before 10am.

“The pair were trapped under the coach after being knocked down by the vehicle, and had to be freed by firefighters,” a police spokesman said.

The woman was certified dead at the scene by paramedics. The man was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, where he was later certified dead.

Police said it seemed a coach carrying a group of mainland tourists had hit a double-decker bus near the junction of Ma Tau Kok Road and Pak Tai Street.

The two victims were crossing Ma Tau Kok Road at the time and were hit by the tour bus, a police spokesman said.

A male bus passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.

The driver was helping police with the investigation.
