ABC Family Renews ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ Adds Spinoff

Announcement comes on heels of record-breaking social media performance for "Pretty Little Liars" on Twitter

Pretty Little Liars

ABC Family has renewed “Pretty Little Liars” for a fifth season, and ordered a spinoff of the youth-skewing drama titled “Ravenswood.”

From Warner Horizon TV, the studio behind “Liars,” “Ravenswood” will center on a town near “Liars” base Rosewood, PA. The area has suffered under a fatal curse for generations, and five strangers must dig into the town’s mysterious and dangerous history before it’s too late.

Cabler plans to debut the skein in October, following the annual “Pretty Little Liars” Halloween special. I. Marlene King, Oliver Goldstick, Joseph Dougherty and Leslie Morgenstein are exec producing “Ravenswood.”

“Pretty Little Liars” continues to rate as the top program on ABC Family, drawing in women and teens in the cabler’s core demos that flock to Twitter during each “Liars” broadcast.

The season three finale, which aired last week, ranked as Tuesday’s top telecast for the eleventh consecutive week in femmes 12-34 and teens 12-17. Program also routinely outranks competitors in the social media space, accumulating over a million tweets during the season three finale alone. “Pretty Little Liars” currently stands as the most social show on TV.

“‘Pretty Little Liars’ is brand-defining and demo-defining for ABC Family,” said Michael Riley, prexy of the net. “We are proud to be able to grow the ‘PLL’ franchise in two ways — both by adding additional seasons of the original and by extending the storytelling into a spinoff. ‘Ravenswood’ will become another ‘must-tweet-TV’ series for us.”

Season four of “Pretty Little Liars” will bow in June on ABC Family.
