This a book that raises awareness about the Make-A-Wish foundation as well as the recipients of this great program. Mark is a child who spends a lot of time in hospitals. Not only that, but because of his blood disease, he is susceptible to illnesses so can not even have visits from his friends. As Mark gets stronger, he is visited by the Wish Fairies, three ladies who work for Make-A-Wish. He wishes, not for a trip to Disneyland or some expensive toy or game, but to catch bad guys. The Wish Fairies work hard to set up a day and make Mark's wish come true. The illustrations show how much fun Mark has and the expressions on everyone's faces show that it is not just Mark that is enjoying himself. The amount of cooperation needed to make this type of wish come true is amazing. This is a wonderful organization that helps families and clients forget for a while about their illness. The back of the book gives a brief description of Make-A-Wish and what it does. A great book to read to kids, especially if there is a fund raising venture for this group in the works. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

'A Wish Come True' by Kolet Janssen & Emy Geyskens with illustrations by Emilie Timmermans is a story about a bed bound young boy and a dream day he has when his wish comes true.
Mark is in the hospital and he has to stay there. He gets cards and letters from his friends, but they can't visit him because he is so sick. One day, he is visited by some wish fairies who help Mark to make a special wish. Mark gets to spend a day catching bad guys and being tough thanks to the local police and fire departments.
The book is about someone going through the Make-A-Wish program. There is some information about the program at the end of the book. I think this picture book would be good for a kid who gets to have a wish, and maybe for other young readers who might like to learn about such a program. The book is a bit wordy for young listeners, but the illustrations are fun.

The purpose and story behind this book are great. I just wish it had been written better. The illustrations were cute!

Sick little boy—so sick his friends can’t see him in the hospital—gets a visit from the wish fairies, also known as the Make-A-Wish® Foundation. What he wants to do is catch bad guys, and when he’s better he gets his wish, starting with a visit to a fire station. That’s followed by some police training, including cuffing his own dad.
When they go out on a call I instantly thought it had been set up so the kid would catch the bad guy, but no, it was an actual police call! What? You let a little kid do that? Even though it turned out okay in the end, that’s just ridiculous, and ruined what was looking to be a very good book grounded in reality. Dropped a point.
Ends with the history of the Make-A-Wish® Foundation.

Mark is a little boy who spends a lot of time sick so he is sequestered in a hospital for those long periods. He has a serious illness that affects his blood. His mom and dad stay with him to comfort and be by his side. His classmates send him pictures that they have created to hang up on the wall behind his bed but unfortunately they cannot come and visit him because they might make him even sicker.
Today some special visitors drop by to say hello. They are wish fairies and they ask Mark a very important question:
"What do you wish for most of all?"
Mark ponders that question thoroughly then has a eureka moment.
"I want to catch bad guys!'" he yells.
The fairies laugh at his response and magically they start making his wish come true. They are not real fairies of course but real live people and they begin to work hard to make Mark's wish come true. They want to bring to him happiness and hope and be a positive distraction from his relentless sickness.
The girls organize a day where Mark can interact with local brave firemen and policemen. Everyone involved participates in making this day a special and memorable one for Mark and his family.

Okay, I was tearing up at this book. Not an outright cry, but I am definitly foggy. This is a story of a little boy getting his wish through the Make-a-wish foundation. All we know is that the boy is sick. We don’t know (something with the blood) or life expectancy, just that the wish fairies are going to give him a great day. Awesome story.

I thought this book was awesome. Mark is a child whose life is different from many other children but the author is able to keep the story light hearted and fun. Mark does consider wishing for things like ice cream etc. which would be the natural answer of any young child but he is able to see past his own satisfaction and wish for something that would help others. I did like how the story doesn't focus too strongly on Mark's illness and allows Mark to dream big. Many children dream of being firemen or policemen when they grow up and I think the story would be relatable and exciting for children. I saw the importance of having the Make-A-Wish information at the end; people are able to learn more about the foundation and know how to support it if they can. I wouldn't hesitate to read this book to my children.

A Wish Come True is a lovely children’s book aiming to raise awareness about the now famous Make-A-Wish® association whose goal is to grant wishes to sick children with life-threatening medical conditions. The little boy, Mark, doesn’t wish for just anything… he wishes to catch bad people. So, he embarks on an exciting adventure as a firefighter and a policeman, all that made possible by three fabulous fairies!
It’s a great book to teach children how precious life can be and that wishes should be about more than material stuff. Mark embodies the values of selflessness and dedication — instead of wanting something just for himself, he wishes for something that will benefit others.

A Wish Come True by Kolet Janssen A Wish Come True by Kolet Janssen and Emy Geyskens is an educational book for children ages four and up. Emilie Timmermans is the illustrator. Mark has a serious illness and has to spend a lot of time in the hospital. The fairies agree that since he's brave he deserves a reward. I gave it four stars.
