A “Bachelorette” contestant is in hot water after a Twitter account linked to his name shows racist and sexist messages.
Lee Garrett, a 30-year-old singer/songwriter competing for Rachel Lindsay’s affection on the current season of the reality show, has now locked his account, but screenshots taken by Huffington Post include a litany of controversial tweets.
“What’s the difference between the NAACP and the KKK?” read a tweet from the alleged account. “One has the sense of shame to cover their racist a– faces.”
“Guys… When is the last time YOU actually saw a pretty feminist? There is a reason for this,” read another.
The account also shared a link to an article titled, “Thousands sign petition to recognize #BlackLivesMatter as terrorist group after Dallas.”
This season of “The Bachelorette” features the first black lead in franchise history. Lindsay, a 31-year-old lawyer from Texas, said she’s “just trying to find love.”
“Even though I’m an African-American woman, it’s no different than any other Bachelorette,” she said just after being cast in February.
Another contestant, Bryce Powers, was recently called out for a transphobic answer in his show bio.
The 30-year-old firefighter said his biggest fear about dating was “the chick is actually a dude.”
ABC reps declined to comment on Garrett’s alleged Twitter account.
