Don't forget when protesting, people, that Japan refused to sign a ban on nuclear arms recently, with some suggesting it's high time Japan gets its own. Maybe start here.

Sadly politics will erase all of it.

Well, surely, that will stop the North Koreans in their tracks.

The ban should apply to all countries and not exclude the P5 (US, China, Russia, etc) or others.

I signed this today!

Obviously good intentions, the world would be so much nuclear without nuclear weapons. Honest heart wrenching pleas that will move any individual human being. But unrealistic. Those who have them won't give them up. Those who don't have them but rely on them, like Japan, Australia, South Korea won't sign up. Then we have the nations like North Korea and Iran of this world who couldn't care less what others thought.

Well said. Sad, but true : (

The US will never give up its nuclear arms as it uses them to threaten, bully and dominate all nations without a nuclear deterrent. The US has stated that it is prepared to pre-emptively strike any nation. Any nation that will not submit to US domination, that will not become subservient to US interests is liable to US invasion. As far as the US is concerned the World is there to advance US interests. All sovereign nations need nuclear deterrent against the US.

While it's nice to laud the efforts of Japanese bomb survivors it would have been better served against their own government, like the minds of Abe and his ilk who have made Japan into arms dealers! The UN protest is thus rather hampered by their own country's hypocrisy

Jjgovt does not have power to influence other countries.  They are doing right thing, pies them instead of suggesting them to use J gov't.

How about sending their petition to Iran or North Korea? Instead these clowns posture at the UN.

The only time nuclear weapons will be banned completely and have no more potential for use, is when we move unto something potentially more dangerous (god forbid) and the old stock piles of A-bombs are all used up. Then and only then we will no loner have them.

But since those trailing behind us usually use what we had, they may never be gone completely even then. But again A-bombs will be the least of our concerns by that point.
