There comes a time in every woman's life when she snuggles in for a perfect night of Netflix and wine, and then realizes that the bottle grabbed from the bottom shelf of Tesco tastes like, well, a bottle from the bottom shelf of Tesco.
Yep, one of life's eternal struggles is trying to find a cheap wine that actually tastes good — but whether you're a wine connoisseur or just a wino, Lidl have just answered your prayers.
Lidl's Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc NV, which costs just £7.99 ($10), has been named one of the best in the world — categorized alongside Champagnes costing more than six times the price.
The sparkling wine was given the "Silver Outstanding" award at the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) alongside Veuve Clicquot 2008 vintage Champagne, which is currently available from wine.com for $90.
Produced the same way to Champagne, using the same method (and the same grapes), this inexpensive alternative is described as "dry with plenty of flavor," having "integrated fizziness and a dry, lingering finish."
In a statement, Buying Director at Lidl UK Paul Gibson said: "We pride ourselves on being able to provide unbeatable prices and quality for our customers.
"Our overall core wine offering continues to go from strength to strength; this has enabled us to continue to deliver on award-winning wines such as our Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc NV — being ranked by the IWSC as a similar standard to premium champagnes."
Of course, the major drawback here is that, currently, the cheap-but-amazing champagne is only available in the U.K. However, there is a stateside varietal at Lidl U.S. stores that's very similar and goes for the same price. It's called Los Andides Crémant de Loire and it recently won a gold medal at Indy International Wine Competition.
