Gerard Butler is sending his condolences to the family of the late Michael Nyqvist, who he recently worked with on the upcoming movie Hunter Killer.

The 47-year-old actor took to social media to share a video tribute to the actor, who died from lung cancer on Tuesday (June 27).

“Hi there. I’m really compelled to do this, but Michael Nyqvist, Swedish actor, you probably know him from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, who I made a movie with last year called Hunter Killer, it hasn’t come out yet… I just found out that he passed today,” Gerry says in the clip.

“It feels important to send my condolences because of all the movies I’ve made, he was right up there,” Gerard added. “He’s one of my favorites, if not my favorite, in terms of somebody who just had such incredible talent and childlike qualities and playfulness. But more than anything, just incredible humility and warmth and this cheeky kind of glint in his eyes.”

“Sending my condolences to Michael Nyqvist and his family. Incredibly talented and an extraordinary human being. My heart is broken,” he wrote in the caption of the video.

Michael Nyqvist, best known for originating the role of Mikael Blomkvist in the Swedish movies based on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, has died at the age of 56.

The actor passed away on Tuesday (June 27) following a battle with lung cancer, according to THR.

Michael starred alongside Noomi Rapace in the three movies based on the Millennium Trilogy book series and they both launched careers in American films.

Michael later appeared in films such as John Wick with Keanu Reeves, Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol with Tom Cruise, and Colonia with Emma Watson.
