Local basketball star arrested, found with heroin

MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - Former Eisenhower High School and Purdue basketball standout Lewis Jackson is facing drug charges, after what started as a routine traffic stop Saturday.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office confirmed early Wednesday Jackson was the man they pulled over at about 1:30pm Saturday. During the stop, a Macon County K-9 unit detected the presence of an illegal drug odor.

Deputies say they found more than 70 grams of heroin, two Xanax pills, and 8.4 grams of marijuana. Jackson, 27, was booked in the Macon County Jail. He bonded out on Monday.

Jackson led Eisenhower to their last sectional championship in 2007 before a college career at Purdue. Jackson played professionally in Europe, then in the NBA D-League. He was waived by the Delaware 87ers in February of 2017, but last played in an actual game in the fall of 2016 with the Erie Bayhawks.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
