Meditation is an important aspect of the Buddhist religion. Each Buddhist school has different forms and techniques for meditation. For some, it’s the form in which the mind reaches a plane of existence and understanding beyond that which we normally know, and thus, involves far more than the five senses.

Some zen masters explain that meditation is “touching the heart” of the human being. As such, it is important to have locations where meditation can be taken in complete and total relaxation and harmony. That’s what this is. Built for Buddhist meditation, thinking, and contemplation, it also serves to satisfy the needs of daily life.

It’s located in the forest by the river side along the river in Tangshan, Hebei, China, and was designed by architectural studio ARCHSTUDIO in 2017. Its main objective was to create a connection between the building itself and nature, a place where the environment, Buddha, and humans can coexist seamlessly.

The entrance is hidden amongst the many trees that dot the surroundings of the structure, thus necessitating that the shrine’s visitors walk through a narrow pathway underneath the shade of the trees in order to gain access to the building.

In general, the shrine has an air about it of peace and tranquility, perfect elements that are necessary for the meditation that is undertaken here.
