Girlboss has its charms, but they're ultimately undone by a fundamental mishandling of the show's problematic protagonist.

Lorna B Loved it! Don't know why it has such low scores? Took a few episodes to get into, seemed like annoying rom-com characters at first and then it just flipped and became something else. Gutted the show was pulled and no series 2. Always loved the store Nasty Gal, so it was an amazing surprise to me when I found out what the series was about. I've since bought Sophia's 'Girl Boss' book and am giving that a go. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Heidi W I don't think I have ever disliked a lead character more. Nothing likeable or redeemable. Supporting characters annoyingly okay with being treated like doormats and that never gets resolved because the protagonist learns nothing and just continues down her entitled narcissistic path as she keeps getting rewarded. The book deserved better. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Nicholeee The main character was unbearable. I could barely get through episode 1 and 2. Definitely not a fan of the actress that played the main character. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Anto S One of the most boring and shallow TV shows I've ever seen Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Ponhand P Excellent series. Very dimanic. The lead actress is a genius actor. Too bad the series was dumped. I would have watched an other season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/02/22 Full Review michael l I enjoyed the series, it was vibrant and funny. Critics didn't seem to like it at all, and I think that's a bit misguided. First, the supporting cast was filled with solid comedic character actors. They did a fantastic job. The show was shot well, the set dressing was fun and interesting, the acting is good, and the main character's personality flaws reflect a reality about people. Finding your way in the world is tough. Some people are angry, self-destructive, generally messed up, and it's a struggle to offload the baggage that created that flawed person. Sure, character and plot development could have been better, but overall I thought the show flowed well and was entertaining, and it was more than a formulaic sitcom, so it gets points for that. Andi Zeisler Bitch Media The reality into which the 13-episode series struts makes it seem, in too many ways, spectacularly tone-deaf. Feb 18, 2021 Full Review Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald At least there's other stuff on TV. Mar 28, 2018 Full Review Neal Justin Minneapolis Star Tribune This new character may not be the voice of her generation, but she just may be the voice of super-smart TV comedy. Good enough. Jun 5, 2017 Full Review Saba Hamedy Mashable Sophia is the epitome of everything people hate about millennials. Apr 29, 2019 Full Review Morgan Baila Refinery29 The show itself is entertaining, if not addictive. It uses a killer alt-rock, post-punk soundtrack and a vibrant vintage wardrobe to transport viewers right into the lifestyle and mindset of 23-year-old Sophia, through all her quirks and catastrophes. Apr 29, 2019 Full Review Ashley Bulayo The Young Folks As much as it pains me to even type this and become one of those negative eBay members or a disgruntled message board commenter, the show was a hit and a miss.
