Stranger Things season 2 will address some of the 'internet rage' over Barb

Perhaps more surprising than the success of Netflix's '80s sci-fi thriller, Stranger Things, was the widespread adoration of one of its gawky teen characters, Barb.

Barb, poor Barb, was the best friend of the unrealistically perfect and charming Nancy Wheeler. Barb, in her mom jeans and her terribly awkward glasses, was the perfect stand-in for most of us in our teen years. Barb is all of us. We are all Barb.

About midway through the first season, however, Barb met an unfortunate (and pretty gruesome, tbh) end. Shocked and saddened, fans have shouted the slogan "Justice for Barb" online and elsewhere. This hasn't gone unnoticed by the show's creators or cast, according to a panel at New York Comic Con.

During the "Inside the Upside Down" panel, actor David Harbour (who plays sad boy and cop Jim Hopper), teased some sort of resolution for fans in season 2.

"We will tell you that we do deal with the loose ends in season 2, and we do deal with some of the internet rage over Barbs' death," he said. "We will have justice for Barb's death in some sense."

Fans hoping the character might somehow come back to life, however, will be disappointed.

"I can assure you Barb is very much dead," Harbour said.

Harbour didn't have much to share about season 2, but did offer up some hints. The show could explore Hopper's guilt over losing his daughter.

"I can assure you Barb is very much dead."

"He has so much guilt because he's so used to saving people," Harbour said. But in the case of his daughter's death, Harbour continued, that's just life. "There's just nothing you can do."

When asked about a possible storyline between Hopper and Eleven, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown, Harbour deferred, choosing to reply instead with what he'd like to see. There's something interesting about the character's relationship with children as a result of his daughter's death, as well as Hopper's involvement in selling out Eleven near the season's end.

"I would say there would be a rich emotional arc there that I would love to explore," the actor said. " ... I think there's a lot of territory there."

Stranger Things is expected to return for season 2 in 2017. The cast so far has only received a few of their scripts for the new season, but Harbour had some promising commentary.

"The arc," he said. "It's insane."
