An Iranian movie about an expecting couple who realise that their unborn child is likely to be born with serious birth defects. The mother decides to bring the child up alone, knowing that it’s not going to be an easy task. Heart-warming performance by Golshifteh Farhavi.
The Shawshank Redemption
It’s a must-watch movie, all about never-ending hope in the worst of situations. Andy Dufresne, a banker is sentenced to life at Shawshank State Penitentiary for a double murder, despite his claims of innocence. The story is about how he adapts to prison life, finds a friend in Red (Morgan Freeman) and finds hope.
Annayum Rasoolum
A taxi driver, Rasool, and a salesgirl, Anna, fall in love. Their union is questioned because they belong to different religions. The film stands out because of the realistic portrayal of life, with a bit of film magic.
The Lives of Others
It’s the early 80s and the residents of East Berlin are being monitored by the Stasi. It follows the life of playwright Dreyman and his girlfriend who are under surveillance of Stasi captain Gerd Wiesler. It shows how perceptions change and how Wiesler risks his life for the lives of others. The final scene of the film is a classic.
Margarita With A Straw
Laila, a rebellious young woman with cerebral palsy, leaves India to study in New York, embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Kalki Koechlin’s best performance till date.
