BenQ HT2150ST Projector: Immersive home theater experience (review)

BenQ HT2150ST Projector
Big screen televisions are perfect for immersing yourself in a movie, TV show, video game or sports program. However, if you want to move the TV around, it can be cumbersome, and you’re pretty much stuck with a fixed size, whether it’s a 60-inch or 40-inch screen. With the BenQ HT2150ST Projector, home theater enthusiasts will be able to carry it around the house with ease. To take it one step further, you can even take it outside for parties. In addition to that, they can adjust the size of the projected image with some impressive results. Do you want an 80-inch projected screen? Go for it. How about 100-inch? Nobody’s stopping you.

Before being wowed by the image size and quality, you must first set it up to properly display it against a clear wall or blank screen. There are a lot of options including choosing the placement of the BenQ projector on a table or hanging from the ceiling and choosing the wall color type. For this demo, I decided to place it on a table while choosing the yellow wall type. The most important setting is the ability to adjust the angle of the projection, especially if the device is really low or high.

Inside the sliding compartment on the top of the projector is the dial for focusing. Simply rotate it left or right to find the sweet spot for clarity. Accessing the menu and adjusting the settings can be done on top of the projector or with the accompanying remote control.

Furthermore, you’ll be able to connect the projector via HDMI or VGA.

For the BenQ HT2150ST Projector, I tested it out on a wall with the lights off. Whether it’s projecting a video game like Overwatch or a film like Captain America: Civil War, the picture quality is very clear with 1080p resolution. Of course, turning on the lights will ruin the experience, but surprisingly the image is still bright enough. But it’s best to turn off as many lights as possible and also closing the blinds/curtains.

The projected image you see below is approximately 80 inches. (Don’t mind the speaker wire.) It still looked quite remarkable at that size, and in the example below, you can see Tom Holland’s acne. (I did not notice that before.)

Here’s a photo of Netflix’s The Keepers with subtitles. As you can see, the text is really crisp.

Here are the specs:

  • 6xRGBRGB color wheel
  • Lowest input lag for fast action movies and gaming
  • Sharp details with 15:000:1 contrast
  • Two 10 watt speakers
  • Two digital HDMI connectivity ports (HDMIx1, HDMI/MHLx1)

Final Reaction

The photos really don’t do the actual projector justice. You have to really see it in person to see. With that said, I was very surprised at the projected image clarity. With the lights dimmed or off, the brightness, color and image quality are great. It all depends on if you have a giant screen or a big blank wall and enjoy watching movies or playing video games in a dimly lit room. If that’s the case, then I definitely recommend the BenQ HT2150ST Projector for your immersive home theater experience.

The BenQ HT2150ST Projector is now available for $999. You can purchase it at http://ift.tt/2qLG32E
