The Government of Telangana would soon announce a policy on Internet-of-Things (IoT), including robotics as a key component, said Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, after inaugurating Makers’ Leeway, a robotics lab touted to be a first of its kind in south India and only second in India.
A prototyping centre for electronics, semiconductors and hardware start-ups called T-Works on the lines of T-Hub would come up at Gachibowli soon, with an investment of ₹50 crore over the next three to four months, he said.
A start-up in the robotics space, H-Bots Robotics, would come out with the world’s second humanoid police robot for commercial deployment in the city. The robot would walk, recognise people, take complaints and diffuse bombs too, said the founder of H-Bots Robotics, P.S.V. Kisshhan.
“Our aim is to make India the largest robotics hub in the world,” said Mr. Kisshhan, adding that they had raised US $1 million of funding. Mr. Ranjan unveiled the design of the police robot that would be out by the end of the year and would be the world’s second humanoid robot after the one in Dubai.
While the one in Dubai was made in France, the police robot here would completely be designed in India. The prototype is expected to be ready by this September and would be tested at Jubilee Hills check-post for two months. Mr. Kisshhan said unlike the police robot in Dubai that moved only on wheels, the Indian police robot would walk and interact with people.
