Spat in House over Cauvery notification

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday said it was former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who had taken necessary action to get the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal notified in the gazette.

Intervening during a debate on the floor of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Palaniswami said it was the DMK that had failed to take any steps towards getting the final order of the tribunal implemented. He said the contention of DMK MLA Anbazhagan that despite being the third largest party in Parliament, the AIADMK had not exerted enough pressure on the Centre to get the order implemented, was wrong. “On February 5, 2007, the tribunal gave its final verdict. You (DMK) did not take proper decisions, because of which when our government came back to power, a case was filed on (September 1, 2011) and a notification was issued,” he said.
