Jordan Oliver Is OUT For World Team Trials
Jordan Oliver has confirmed to FloWrestling that he will miss the 2017 World Team Trials this weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska.

A two-time Open runner-up, Oliver finally broke through in April and earned himself a berth in the trials finals. He knocked off Kellen Russell, Zain Retherford and Frank Molinaro in successive order to win in Vegas. The two-time NCAA champ has made the WTT finals three times, and was swept each time after having to also go through the challenge tournament.

Per the official WTT procedures, no athlete in the 65kg bracket will have a bye to the finals. This means that the challenge tournament semifinal winners will wrestle in a best-of-three series.

The last time an Open winner had to miss the trials was in 2015, when Nick Marable did not weigh in. He was at first denied a later wrestle-off for the world team spot, but filed an appeal that went through special arbitration. Ultimately, Marable wrestled James Green for the 70kg spot at Fargo that year.

It is not clear at this time if Oliver can be granted a special wrestle-off, or why he was forced to pull out of the trials. We will update this ongoing story as more information comes to light. Jordan Oliver did tell FloWrestling that he plans on petitioning for a wrestle off against the World Team Trials winner.
