Here’s The Latest Look At Emily Blunt As Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins Returns, the upcoming sequel to 1964’s Mary Poppins, isn’t out until December 2018, but we’re slowly being fed spoonfuls of it. There’s been the back of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, then we saw some on-set pap shots of, again, Emily’s back. Now we’ve got some glossy pics courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

I’m a ride-or-die for Julie Andrews’ Mary Poppins, so of course I’m going to think that Emily’s version is like a “What you order online vs. What arrives” meme. Especially that hat. I know child care isn’t the most lucrative of careers, but that hat looks like the sort of thing that would make the St. Paul’s pigeon lady flip her a tuppence and point her to the nearest department store. “And get yourself some less-tacky gloves while you’re at it.

Mary Poppins Returns takes place 25 years after the original, this time in the mid-30s. Great Depression London? Sounds fun! Michael Banks, now grown with three kids, loses his wife and is about to lose his house. So Mary pops in and cheers them up with her freaky powers of flight and animated hallucinations. She’s also joined by Jack the Lamplighter (played by Lin-Manuel Miranda). EW has a few promo pics from the film, like this one of Mary and Jack committing a serious act of child endangerment on a roof somewhere.

Sadly, there are no pictures of the only cast member that matters: Mary Poppin’s shady umbrella parrot. I need to know what kind of petty shit it has to say about Mary’s new gloves.
