Bleecker Street has taken the North American rights to Embankment Films’ upcoming Alexander McQueen documentary, McQueen.
Director Ian Bonhote (La Lucha) will take a look at the life and tragic death of the British designer, who began his career in his teens, became the head of Givenchy and eventually launched his own label.
McQueen, which is currently shooting in London and Paris, will use archival photos and interviews, as well as re-created scenes, to tell the story of the famed fashion star, who took his own life at the age of 40.
Peter Ettedgui wrote the doc, which is being produced by Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter of Salon Pictures and Andee Ryder of Misfits Entertainment. Embankment Films
McQueen, first announced during the Berlin Film Festival, has been picked up in several international territories, including Japan, Switzerland and the U.K.
“As Bleecker Street takes on its first documentary, we couldn’t be more excited about working with Ian on the life of Alexander McQueen,” said CEO Andrew Karpen. “We know fans will be enraptured as we look at the career of one of the fashion industry’s most revered designers.”
Another McQueen project is the works from Pathe and 45 Years director Andrew Haigh, which has Jack O’Connell attached to star as the designer.
