Pen a letter on ‘Dear Bapu, you inspire me’

The Department of Posts has invited entries for its national-level letter writing competition on the theme, ‘Dear Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi), you inspire me’.

The letter should be written on an inland letter not exceeding 500 words or on plain A-4 size sheet not exceeding 1000 words and sent through embossed envelope.

The competition is open to all irrespective of age and is divided into two age groups – up to 18 years and above 18 years.

The contest would be held in two categories – ‘inland letter card’ and ‘envelope’.

The letter can be written in Hindi, English or Tamil to Bapu or Mahatma Gandhi and sent to the Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, Chennai- 600 002. All participants should give a self-certification as to whether they were below or above the age of 18.

The letters should be posted in letter boxes in rural areas and in the special letter boxes in district headquarters and major cities.

Last date for posting these letters is August 15. Letters posted after the deadline will not be entertained, according to a press release from D. Veena Kumari, Postmaster General, Central Region-Tamil Nadu.

First, second and third prizes of ₹25,000, ₹10,000 and ₹5,000 respectively for each group will be given at the Tamil Nadu Circle level.

At the all-India level, the prize amounts will be ₹50,000, ₹25,000 and ₹10,000 along with the honorary title of ‘Patron of Post’, ‘Companion of Post’ and ‘Post Pal’ respectively.

The prizes will be distributed at a function to be held at Sabarmathi Ashram on October 2.
