Abstract: Mood stabilizers have stabilization and relapse prevention effect on bipolar disorder besides antimanic effect,therefore are also designated as emotional stabilizer. Mood stabilizer as one of main psychotropic drugs has already been put into clinic,the first mood stabilizer is lithium only,later valproate,carbamazepine,lamotrigine and atypical antipsychotic drugs are classified as broad mood stabilizers. With the deepening of relevant research the future applications of mood stablizers may be further widened.
