Why I always give away my winners’ medals – Wenger

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has revealed that he does not keep any winners’ medals he has received in his career.

Wenger says he has given them all away to deserving members of his Gunners backroom staff.

“If you come to my home, you will be surprised. I have no medals – from anything,” he said.

“There is no trophy, no medals, no pictures of football on the wall, nothing.

“You would not even guess that I am a football manager – apart from the fact that a football game is on the TV.

“I always give my medals away. There is always a guy at the club who did not get a medal, a member of staff who deserves it, so I give it to him.

“You are always a medal short and you always find someone who takes it. I don’t even have mine from 2004 – nothing.

“Why? Because I don’t like to look back. I always look forward. Maybe I will regret it – maybe one day I will have to look back – it depends on my health.

“I will not always manage but I will always be involved in the game. I am not separated from football, I am completely (immersed) in football.

“Who gets my medal this time? First I have to earn it. You get a medal anyway, winner or loser, but it’s all instinctive.”
