Injured war veterans can be vulnerable to poor financial advice

The Personal Finance Society (PFS) has launched the new Forces MoneyPlan allowing the British public to pay tribute to the work of troops, service families, veterans and cadets.

It will offer injured and recovering service personnel and veterans free one-on-one financial guidance sessions, delivered by qualified financial advisers across the UK.

More than 100 PFS members have already registered to donate their expertise and chief executive Keith Richards said: "Our armed forces make an incredible contribution to the safety and security of our country and it is only fair that we offer support in times of need."

The initiative is launched with charity the On Course Foundation, which aids the recovery of wounded and injured service personnel and veterans.

It helped Vikrant Gurung, a 32-year-old veteran from Nepal, who struggled with alcoholism after losing a leg in 2009 while carrying a comrade to safety in an Afghanistan fire zone.
