Construction work on the No 2 Central Square office scheme in the centre of Cardiff will reach an important milestone on Thursday with a topping out ceremony.

The traditional ceremony in the construction sector marks the last beam being placed on top of a structure.

The building, which will extend to 135,000 sq ft and eight storeys - nine floors including ground - is next to the under construction new £120m headquarters for BBC Cymru Wales.

No 2 Central Square has been designed by world leading architectural firm Foster + Partners. The project's main contractor is ISG.

It will be one floor taller than Central Square's No 1 Central Square office scheme, which is now fully let.

The building, which will be ready for occupancy next summer, is already fully let to law firm Hugh James and Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.

Hugh James has signed up to around 100,000 sq ft in the building, with the school taking the remainder of the office space

It is understood that the school has entered into a 25-year lease at an annual rent of around £25 a sq ft, which is in line with the Hugh James letting deal.

Central Square is being developed by Cardiff-based property development firm Rightacres.

Once completed ownership of the grade A office building will transfer to the property arm of financial services giant L&G
